making bibshorts

RedWhite Apparel is rider owned & operated since 2014. We began with small box of bibshorts and a desk in a bedroom (how all great things start) and are now shipping bibshorts as far as Alaska and outfitting riders talking epic events such as the Transcontinental Race, Paris-Brest-Paris and 24 Hour MTB races.

This is the short version. If you have time, grab a cup of joe and read on for the longer story.

A Long Ride & Sore Butts

It was 2014. Life was generally pretty good. So good that we actually had time to head out for a ridiculously long ride on the whim, one Saturday morning. We were excited. We had clean bikes, new socks…..and new cycling bibshorts. A fresh new chamois! We were sure it was going to be a great day in the saddle. So we took an early turn that would take us further out. Hey, it’s the weekend, let’s live a little ok?

8 hours, 4 muesli bars, 6 bananas and a coffee stop later – we were home. The legs were smashed. Salt crusted our faces. Road grime coated our noble steeds. The average speed was great. By all accounts, it should have been a fantastic day out. Except it wasn’t.

Our butts were sore. The sit-bones to be exact. It’s as though we’d been riding on wet-tissue paper instead of the chamois with all the modern bangs and whistles that we’d been promised. Somehow, somewhere, the chamois decided to stop being nice to us and just compressed. We were perplexed. Weren’t these cycling bibshorts labelled “For long distance riding“?

Frustrated, we decided enough was enough and it was time to start making bibshorts that we would love riding in. We sat down and started designing a cycling bibshort for riders like us. Riders who enjoy going the distance and those who want nothing short (pun intended) of the best technical bibshort for that specific purpose. We looked at everything. The Chamois. The Gripper. Fabrics. The Cut. Compression. The Fit. Everything. We consulted suppliers to the very best technical brands, learnt, prototyped, tested and sacrificed (mainly our butts) to create our idea of what an ultra-distance bibshort should be.

6 months later, we launched The BIB. It’s a long-distance bib short that won the 2015 People’s Choice Award. A year later, we launched The RACE in response to our customers who raced and wanted the plushness of The BIB, without the bulk of it’s long-distance chamois. It’s our idea of what a versatile race-day bib short can be.

Today, we’ve expanded our range of cycling bibshorts to a gorgeous range of “KOM” Bibshorts & a very understated “STEALTH” range. Both come in 2 chamois options.

We’ve also released a collection of Jerseys that perfectly complement our long-distance bibshorts. These are built from a lightweight fabric and feature an Oversized Resin Zipper that won’t seize up after years of use.

The Team

RedWhite Apparel is operated by a team of 2. We are tiny, and we like keeping our operations small in order to manage our customers and product quality well. We answer every email, process every order, manage every supplier and also ride our bikes a lot.

Shipping Worldwide from Singapore

We operate out of a central warehouse / design studio in sunny Singapore. Singapore is a one of the world’s great shipping hubs, which allows us to efficiently ship our bibshorts worldwide. We offer a variety of shipping options which includes a Free Shipping option, by far the best way to get your clothes from us. We offer this in collaboration with DHL under their “E-Commerce” service, made possible by being located in a hub-city like Singapore.

All our products arrive in Singapore from our global suppliers (Bibshorts from Italy, Gloves from Spain, Socks from Taiwan etc), are quality inspected by us, and then shipped out to you.

When we’re not receiving inventory or shipping orders, we’re either designing new garments, thinking about our customers or out riding our bikes.
