Description

The tabs below are a summary of technical information about The Race. We have extensive writeups for each Bibshort that can be found under the Technology tab at the main menu of this website

RedWhite cycling bibs use Italian fabrics from MITI. The fabric used is a 220gsm matt black fabric with 20% Lycra POWER (an elastic fibre with compressive qualities) and 80% nylon.

As a result of this choice, the cycling bibshorts achieve a natural next-to-skin feel, with soft, supple and highly breathable lycra. Furthermore, the nylon based lycra provides superior anti-abrasion properties as opposed to polyester based lycra.

All RedWhite bibshort chamois, including the RACE chamois, are purpose built for long distance riding. A quick look and feel will tell you how much thicker and denser it is than the norm.

However, the thickness and densities are defined in the right areas to allow you to cycle further and longer without the dreaded onset of saddle sores. In addition for the race chamois, dimples are added to enable better heat dissipation.

Also, the chamois is constructed from Open-Cell foam of multiple densities.  The rear of the chamois is kept extremely plush to allow you to roll back onto your sit-bones – a position that’s common on long rides.

To accommodate the needs of more aggressive cyclists, the perineum area is elongated and firmed up to provide ample protection and comfort when an attacking rider goes into the drops and rolls forward onto the saddle.

A cycling bibshort requires some form of gripper to ensure it stays in position. RedWhite cycling bibs go one step further by ensuring the grippers provide the necessary grip without constricting your legs on a long ride. We call this a “Silicone Microdot Gripper“

A lycra fabric that’s overlaid with hundreds of microbeads of silicone is employed. Each dot works together to give an even and non-tacky grip on the skin, while the lycra base ensures your skin still breathes.

Getting the right fit means that the bibshort should disappear on you when you ride. No flapping excesses to remind and annoy you.

As a result, the bibs pattern was constructed to follow the curves of the lycra. The design intent was to create a mesh that hugs the body all around and remains like a skin-suit even when the user goes into the drops. Furthermore, a belly panel was added to provide further abdominal support.

After more than one season

After more than a complete season (2 Zwift indoor + 1 Audax outdoor) I am really satified with this Race BIB
Comfortable as it was described, fitting is almost perfect for me (M - for 175 cm & 71 kg)
Only one con, sometimes it slip up a little bit, maybe it is not too tight for me
But it deserves the five stars

Fit smaller than expected for the first few months of wear but stretched over time and now comfortably fits snug without any discomfort (M - 6' @ 175). The chamosis is good for 1-3 hour rides as described and have ridden them in longer rides with little to no discomfort. The area of the gripper seem to have stretch too much over wear but still serves its purpose. Have not notice any deterioration of the Lyra after many washes, unlike the less expensive pairs I had. Definitely worth the price and looking forward to grabbing a second pair when this one is worn.

Second pair

This is my second pair of the race bibs. Comfortable and well made these are perfect for my 50-100km rides. Not quite as good as my Assos knicks - but a lot more economical.

Good shorts for the money

After wearing "The Bib", I decided to get a pair of "The Race" to compare and use on shorter rides. I was also after a bit more compression, so went for a medium size. Overall, they are good shorts. The chamois for me is probably a tad disappointing. The density just isn't there, especially for non-lightweight riders. The thickness of the pad is fine, it just needs a higher level of density. The compression is also not what would be expected from a race short, however this isn't advertised so I'll let that one go. Overall, there's nothing wrong with them, and they are great value for money, but for me, I'd stick to The Bib.

Hi Dave, You're spot on with your observation about The RACE. It is the same bibshort (fabrics, cutting wise as The BIB), but comes with a slimmer and less dense chamois. Details are here : https://www.redwhite.cc/product-information/compare-bibshorts/ We find that our lighter customers (sub 75kg typically) prefer The RACE. These riders also tend to race more and like the slimmer chamois, which is why we designed this bibshort for them and for other lighter, aggressive riders. We also find that customers who are used to more minimalist pads prefer The RACE to The BIB. It really boils down to personal preference and we offer both bibshorts that covers everyone. Thanks for trying it out and leaving this review and for pointing out your preference after using both The BIB & The RACE. It really does help inform future customers about which bibshort to go for.
